Membership of The Burney Society (UK) is open to everyone who is interested in the life and writings of Frances Burney and/or her family. The annual subscription is £20 for individuals, £25 for couples living at the same address, £10 for full-time students. The subscription rate is reduced to £15 for those less than five years post graduation.
Annual membership runs from 13 May each year, to coincide with our financial year and a reminder will be emailed to members on or around the 1st May. Current members who pay on or around 13 June each year, to coincide with the anniversary of Frances Burney’s birthday, can continue to do so.

Full members are entitled to a print copy of The Burney Journal, an annual peer- reviewed scholarly publication.
Attendance at our online seminars, held in Spring and Autumn, and the opportunity to present Burney related papers.
Participation in our Conferences and Symposiums, which are alternate each year. Membership of the UK Burney Society also qualifies you to attend the North American conferences, which are held in alternate years to our conferences. Our next conference will be held in 2026 in Oxford.
The opportunity to apply for our annual research Bursary and the annual Hemlow Prize (see Bursary page).
Voting at our AGM and the opportunity to stand for election onto the committee.
